New Baby
Our Story
Tell me again about the first time we met. It’s my favorite story.
Wild Magic
You don’t know who they will be, the ones who open your eyes to life’s wild magic, but when you find them, it will not be hard to tell.
Spark
There are more with a spark like the one you carry in your loving heart, so I know we will never be lost.
Full Steam
All the years have not lessened the feeling of excitement in me when you give me that look. The one that says Fire it up, we’re going in.
Boundless
This is the
kind of love
that just keeps
going.
True Happiness
Exhibit a.
This is a picture
of true happiness.
Well Behaved
They’re like pets who shed clothes instead of hair, she said, & they talk back & want a lot of stuff. But at least they don’t pee on the carpet anymore, she added.
Timing
There are moments when I’m completely at peace, but it’s usually before my children wake up & they’ll have none of that.
Such Small Things
For a long time there were only your footprints & laughter in our dreams & even from such small things, we knew we could not wait to love you forever.
Side by Side
We sat side by side in the morning light & looked out at the future together.
Purple Madonna
One time on Hollywood Boulevard I saw a young girl with a baby. It was a crisp winter morning & her hair shone dark purple in the sun. She was panhandling outside the Holiday Inn & the door clerk came out & told her to be on her way & I wondered if anyone would recognize the Christ child if they happened to meet. I remember thinking it’s not like there are any published pictures & purple seemed like a good color for a Madonna so I gave her a dollar just in case.
Perfect Day
It was a day filled with the glow of ordinary things & we passed them quietly from hand to hand for a long time & someone said she had picked a perfect day to be born & I think all of us felt the same.
One Child
I hope it will be said we taught them to stand tall & proud, even in the face of history & the future was made new & whole for us all, one child at a time.
No Regret
I sometimes wake in the early morning
& listen to the soft breathing
of my children & I think to myself,
this is one thing I will never regret
& I carry that quiet with me all day long.
Laughter & Noise
There are lives I can imagine without children but none of them have the same laughter & noise.
Invention
I always wanted to invent something that would move around & make funny noises & would change the world as we know it & I forgot all about that until we had kids & now I see I came pretty close.
His Laughter
The first time his laughter
unfurled its wings in the wind,
we knew that the world
would never be the same.
Her Laughter
The first time her laughter unfurled its wings in the wind, we knew that the world would never be the same.
Almost Beyond
She laid on my chest & her breathing filled me almost to beyond what I could hold.
